Alchemy of the Everyday

Alchemy of the Everyday
Looped B/W Super8 film, hand-processed with caffenol

For a few months, I took daily walks to a pond near my studio and observed light dancing on the surface of the water. This is an experimental, contemplative work in recognition of the accidentally miraculous in everyday encounters, a meditation on the sensuous amalgam of liquid, light, and lingering, and an immersion in the pleasures of tactility and materiality. The accompanying 33 unique monotype prints are stills from the film that are created using pressure from a spoon and my body. Acutely aware that recounting an inner experience is nearly impossible, I embrace the ghostly renderings of those moments as records of the impulse to try.
